Peter Musty was urban designer and perspective renderer for this new 260 acre TND on the outskirts of Kansas City. Peter also oversaw the full web documentation of the charrette: http://newlongview.charrettecenter.com.
The charrette was received with overwhelming positive responses from the city, the neighbors, the preservation community, and the media. At the final presentation, the developer, David Gale, received a standing ovation for his role in taking a new direction on this highly controversial site. The final plan envisions a wide mixture of uses and housing types, including a village center at the northwest corner of the land holding. In addition, all but one of the existing structures are slated for adaptive reuse, and a high degree of public open space has been reserved for the residents. In all, approximately 1,200 units of housing and 250,000 square feet of commercial space is expected eventually. Construction is began in the summer of 2003.
